Virginia Margaret (Dow) Lister, 99 passed away peacefully at her home on November 13, 2025. She was born May 13, 1926, the daughter of Charlie and Alta (Anderson) Dow.
Virginia graduated from Corinna Union Academy as the Valedictorian of the Class of 1944. A week after graduating from high school Virginia began working at Eastland Woolen Mill as a warp dresser until her retirement. A devoted member of her community, she belonged to the Corinna United Methodist Church and the Corinna Literary Club, and she served for several years as a town ballot clerk. She was also a member of the Corinna Historical Society, persevering and honoring the history of her hometown. Virginia was issued the town's Boston Post Cane in 2018 signifying being the oldest living citizen in the town.
She was known for her strong work ethic, gentle spirit, and the kindness she offered to everyone she met while also being independent, strong willed and a jack of all trades. Perhaps her biggest accomplishment was raising her son as a single mother. She loved to dance, be with her friends, cook, knit, crochet, but perhaps was best known for making her "scrubbies."
She is survived by her son, Marvin Lister and his wife Elaine of Corinna; granddaughter Jessica and her husband Paul Dyer of Corinna; grandsons Brydon Lister and Scott Lister of Corinna; her sister Martha Clukey and sister in law, Charlene Dow and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her infant son, Brydon George Lister; her parents; three sisters, Louise Irish and husband Tommy, Esther Brooks and her husband Bob and Lucy Seile and her husband Everett; three brothers; Alfred Dow and his wife Betty, Leslie Dow and his wife Alice and Howard Dow; and brother in law Dick Clukey, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to acknowledge and thank Linda Dyer for her dedication and care to Virginia as a friend and neighbor, especially in the last year. They also wish to recognize the hospice workers, Chris and Cheryl, for their care and compassion. Ginny looked forward to her weekly visits from her friend Mary Poland.
A memorial service will be held at the Corinna United Methodist Church, with burial to follow at the Corinna Village Cemetery in the summer of 2026. A specific date will be announced. In lieu of flowers Virginia requested that donations be made to Parian Masonic Lodge, PO Box 192, Corinna, Maine 04928.
