NEWPORT - William A. Black, 49, died August 25, 2018 in Palmyra. He was born March 18, 1969 in Ellsworth, a son of James and Lucille (Lewis) Black. He graduated from Nokomis Regional High, Class of 1987 and attended the University of Maine in Augusta for 3 years studying photography and graphic arts. Billy loved NASCAR and enjoyed his job at the Quirk Pro Shop until the dealership closed it. He worked as a cook at the Millennium in Palmyra where he will be remembered as a good cook. Billy loved playing his guitar and was an avid all New England sports fan.
He is survived by his father and step mother Sally Black of Northeast Harbor; his mother and step father George Grant of Newport; 2 sons, Hayden Black of Newport and Boston Black of Manchester; a daughter, Brittney Springmann and Christopher Savageau of Corinth; 2 half-brothers, Jody Grant and Darlene Hopkins of Plymouth, Josh and Katie Grant of St. Albans; 4 step brothers, Torrey Grant of Syracuse, NY, Brian and Stefanie Blethen of Leesburg, VA, Darrell and Michele Blethen of Parrish, FL, Craig Blethen and Stephanie Waite of Trenton; 2 grandchildren, Mason and Myka Savageau; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by a good friend, Troy "Pick Axe" Davis of Lakeland, FL. Billy was predeceased by his brother Jamie and a son in law, Pfc. Tyler Springmann.
A graveside committal service will be held at 11 A.M. Friday, August 31st, at Riverside Cemetery, Newport, with the Rev. Brian Woodbury officiating. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport.
