NEWPORT - William "Smitty" Lee Smith,63, passed Monday, Dec 1, 2020 due to CHF at the home he shared with Patricia Spinney. He was the first born son to William J. & Mary L. Smith, both deceased in Altoona, PA. He grew up in Duncansville, PA. with older sister Luann and younger brothers, Bob, Scott and Gary. Smitty came to Maine over 40 years ago with Tel-power Inc. working his way from being a "grunt" to a supervisor. He loved his job until a work related injury forced him into early retirement in 2012. He was always a union man and proud member of Local 126. He enjoyed fishing ,hunting, and wheeling until his injury. He also enjoyed cooking, especially his award winning chili. Recently his hobbies included attending car shows with his '57' Chevy, early morning rides with Patty and Mokah watching the world wake up, and spending time at "The Property" in Palmyra with his first and lasting Maine friend, Dave Rowe of Plymouth. Besides his siblings in PA., he is also survived by Patty and her children Jessica (Oscar) Reynolds and boys, and Jonathan (Brad) Spinney, daughter Jessica Smith-Boatman; "'other " kids Matthew Avery, Tabatha Avery Carasiti and their families; and his best buddy of all, his lab, Mokah Ray. Special thanks to Bob and the crew at Bear's one stop for taking care of Smitty and Mokah's curb side needs, and to Mike and Donna Cray, Bill Bird and James Lloyd for your support.
